The Fish

The tank's first living occupant ...

The tank gets its first occupant !!

I got into a lot of trouble when the wife saw this picture !!

On the 2nd Feb 04, I added three glowlight tetras from the Mark 2 tank. These were to test out the water conditions to make sure the water was not affected by anything leaching from the background. At the time of writing (OK, so only the day after), they are still there and seem happy enough. I saw a milkiness in the water that could have been a bacterial bloom. After the Great Background Disaster, I was very nervous about this.

31st May 04 - I've just realised that this page is well out of date. The details of the bacterial bloom (which is all it was), the introduction of the test, first and second fish (2nd Feb, 17th Feb and 19th Apr 04 respectively), the rearrangement of the tank (25th Apr 04) and the filter crash (10th May 04) are all documented in the fishkeeper's diary. Pictures of the fish can be found in the gallery.

Just to dispel the cries of "foul" form those who came to this page looking for pictures of fish, here is a picture of our two most popular fish...

Biffer (left) and Strip (right)

These two beautiful fish are Biffer (on the left), a female Maylandia Zebra Estherae who is the tank bully, and Stripe (on the right), a male Melanochromis Johanni, who is peaceful most of the time, but likes to hang around the Ancistrus Bristlenose and have the occasional peck!!
